Purpose
This module was developed for publishers to allow for the management of individual articles, and their relationship with their Issues (whether they be daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual publications.) This module allows for articles to be submitted (either one at a time, or via data import) via the web, and assigned to their respective issue, including the assignment of taxonomy (specific metadata types of the articles themselves, as they serve within an issue). Examples of articles serving by their taxonomy types would include types such as: Top Story, Feature Article (or whatever naming convention is being used by the publisher). Taxonomy Types allow the publisher to manage the metadata tags. These articles are able to be searched by Issue, or within an Issue, sort by their respective taxonomy type.
Many Site Properties are available for this module, for the many display options typically associated with Issues and their Articles such as (Number of Issues to show per page, within archives, whether links should be maintained from the author directly to bio-data within Employee directory, whether deck should be displayed, etc.) Articles and Issues represent the most versatile module within Centralpoint, based on the use of over 100 publishers worldwide.
This module has many alternatives, such as Article Title and Pages, which allow even articles to be segmented into paginated table of contents on an article by article basis, depending on the format of how you wish to present your articles.
Integration with major subscription/fulfillment companies (CWC, Stark, CDS, Omeda, Hallmark) have been already done for this module, to allow immediate integration to serve paid content to your live subscribers. In these instances, upon sign in, your members are validated through a third party database (subscription system) house at your fulfillment center, to control access by valid users.
Description
This module allows for the management of individual articles, and their relationship with their Issues (whether they be daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual publications.) These articles are able to be searched by Issue, or within an Issue, sort by their respective taxonomy type.
Individual articles can be managed for either public site visitors and/or private (subscribers) to manage the digital rights of all site visitors. Teaser options are available for this module, to allow public user 'teaser' access, and the ability to re-direct to the online subscription (whether online subscription is done with Centralpoint, or third party fulfillment company), supporting PAID CONTENT DISTRIBUTION.
Archives are search-able to either public or private audiences (at the election of the client), and articles are completely search-able to include (any or all) : Title, Caption, Author, Deck Body Copy, file attachment; of which search results are also filtered by public, private or both.
How To Use
This module suite is found under the Publications tab of your Client Console. Issue would be the first module to manage for the period's issue (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annual). Add your Issue, including the cover image of that period's issue, start and end date (which will determine the beginning of the current period and the end)...this will allow you to control which issue is current, and which issues are 'Archived'. The cover image allows your users to view a full layout of all past issues (which may be kept private for just your subscribers, or made available to all). Once you have uploaded at least one issue, go ahead and click on the Article module. Click on new to create a new record:
Within the Article module, it will ask you to enter a Title for your article, Caption (optional), Deck (optional) Body Copy (optional), Assign and Issue (Drop down list to assign this article to a specific issue), Assign taxonomy (Select from five tiers of metadata types to classify and order this article within the issue, define the author (either select from employee directory, or enter a byline), Upload a file (optional- this can be used to provide readers with a download of the article), and select which audience types this article belongs to and what 'type' of user can see it (public=general audience, private=paid subscriber).
Tips About This Module
Integration with major subscription/fulfillment companies (CWC, Stark, CDS, Omeda, Hallmark) have been already done for this module, to allow immediate integration to serve paid content to your live subscribers. In these instances, upon sign in, your members are validated through a third party database (subscription system) house at your fulfillment center, to control access by valid users.
This module can be modified within Site Modules to determine whether articles are able to be searched within the portal, as well as access rights regarding teaser options and integration with third party fulfillment centers.
Script Generator (a tool found within the Design tab of your Client Console) will enable you to generate dynamic script, allowing you to serve the most recently posted articles within your site, anywhere that you would like, in addition to the Issues/Articles module.
A typical use of RSS/XML Syndication and RSS Email Broadcast for articles, is to create a syndication of articles from your site, and then set up an RSS Email broadcast to send your user community a newsletter feeding dynamic articles to them (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly or annually). Because you can segment your member base....you can choose to send some 'public' articles, and send others 'private' articles.
