Purpose
This module was designed in response to client demands to control the icons presented in unison with documents uploaded. This was based on many special file types and custom visual representation that organizations need to allow quick access to files and their types.
Description
This module allows you to manage associations between graphical image icons and the filetypes that your members need to manage and find. Although Centralpoint can dynamically determine what type of file has been uploaded (Example: MS/Excel, Adobe PDF, MS/Word, and over 620 file types) sometimes the standard icons need to either be customized per client, or their may not be associated icons for a particular type of file (CAD Drawings, installation files, etc.). This module allows any file uploaded within a Document Management module to display the appropriate icons; making it easier for people to find what they are looking for.
How To Use
Simply click on the Design tab within your Client Console. Either open an existing record to change the icon for those already in your site, or feel free to click on New to add a new record. While entering the record, you will upload a default image to be used for a particular file type, and even a roll over image (if you have one, if not, simply use the same image for default). You can determine the file extension to be associated with this image (Example '.xls', or '.doc') and if this is for file folders or documents. (Example: You may want to also manage images for the file folder, which contain documents within a specific module, similar to how you manage files in Explorer today). Once you have uploaded the image to be associated with that file type, all references to that file type within a Document Management module (only) will show the appropriate image, making it easier for your users to find crucial documents and file (donwloads) that they are looking for.
Tips About This Module
Visual representation of data is an important factor when considering ease of use for your members to find what they are looking for. This module ONLY works with a Document Library (Module type). Often clients may have anywhere between 1-20 individual document libraries within their site (often giving each one a different name for the specific type of content); depending on their size and scope of the project.
