Value in a technology stack settles where scarcity is. While model capability was scarce, value accrued to whoever had the best weights. As capability converges and price falls, scarcity moves — to proprietary information that no model was trained on, to the encoded judgement that makes a general system behave correctly in a specific business, and to the assurance that both were handled defensibly. None of those are properties of a model, and none can be purchased from a provider. This is the ordinary pattern of infrastructure maturation, and the organizations that recognize it early stop investing in model selection and start investing in the estate that outlasts every selection.
