Time Series Analysis

A time series is a sequence of observations of a particular variable over time (e.g., the daily closing level of Dow Jones Industrial Average). There are a wide range of statistical and temporal data mining techniques for analyzing such data. Two common uses for this type of analysis are forecasting future events (i.e., time series prediction) and searching a database of previous patterns for sequences that are similar to a particular pattern of interest. This is a conventional statistical technique.
